Since the winter temperatures in Alanya don't fall below 0 degrees Celsjus (usually it's between 10 and 15 degrees) there is rarely heating systems built in the flats. And even if someone does it (normally electrical system) it is seldom used. Because there is no warm isolation in the buildings constant heating of the whole flats wouldn't make sense. İnstead of that popular are double function air condition units used for cooling in the summer and for heating in the winter or portable electrical heaters. They do not use much energy and are being used only when needed. That way there are no high heating costs in the winter like we are used to in Europe.
Some older people in the traditional turkish homes still use portable wood stoves called "soba". İn the winter it's nice to make fire in them, especially in the evenings when relatives and friends are coming to visit. On the top of soba you can put "çaydanklik" (kettle) with tea to keep it hot and prepare fresh hot maroons or peanuts. İn the spring soba is usually being removed.
